Imagination Vs. Reality

If you are like most humans you don’t give your imagination as much time or importance as you give ‘real-life’.

I mean, how could you?

Chances are, like the rest of us, you’ve got to work to survive. You may have a family to support in a multitude of ways, and you’ve got other responsibilities that you have to take care of which means you’ve got to show up – in person, in reality.

When we are children, living in a predominantly Theta Brainwave state, our imaginations are just as real & just as important — arguably even more important — than what we now call ‘reality’.

Our perception of the level of importance of imagination vs reality.

Why did it change?

Society. Our environment. Other people’s expectations. Our desires & the societal structures set in place, that taught us how to acquire those desires.

Societal Desires

When you think of your desires, what automatically comes to mind? Physical material things, most likely.

We are bombarded constantly with marketing everywhere we look, telling us exactly why we need this physical thing, specifically, and how it’s going to solve the problems in our lives and make life easier.

It’s a good sell, because the way we have accepted living, life can be unnecessarily hard.

Can you remember any of the desires you had when you were a kid?

Depending on your age, you were somewhere between affected by and bombarded with marketing to some degree –  we were all shown things that we were convinced we needed to be happy — but you had other desires.

You wanted to ‘be something’, or you wanted to ‘go somewhere’, you wanted to ‘meet someone’ or ‘do something’.

Material things won’t change your life – they are for collecting.

As a child our inherent desires are mostly experiences.

Maybe it’s because as a child, we still remember that we are here experiencing this life to learn and to grow and for our souls to live, and to ultimately become better through lived experiences.

While we can learn an awful lot on our smartphones, there is something to be said about real-life in-person experience. [Besides the fact that we can do it without being poisoned by EMF’s].

The younger we are the less we have been programmed by society on how we should be to survive and thrive — You might say we are purer who we really are, when we come in.

There must be some value in being that way, or else evolution would have no use for that. Evolution didn’t reprogram us, the decision-makers of societies did.

Return to Saturn

If we are fortunate, then at some point in our lives we acquire a lot of the things that society told us that we need and we realize that deep down, we still aren’t happy.

This may not sound very fortunate but it is, for this is a potential catalyst for tremendous change in our daily lives. The tower tarot card comes immediately to mind.

For many people, this happens around the age of 27 or 28 when Saturn returns to the location in space that it was at the moment of your birth here on the planet.

Saturn is a planet of strict order and schedules and so if you aren’t on the track you have predestined for yourself, he will move you there – usually it’s an abrupt change and often pretty jarring. My entire life changed — every aspect — unexpectedly.

Of course, a sudden & unexpected awakening followed by drastic change can happen at any age. It has happened and it will happen again for you — maybe later today.

The Science of Imagination vs. Reality

When you dive deep into the physical human anatomy, neuroscience & biochemistry, the importance you put on imagination vs the importance of reality will undoubtedly change.

When people ask me if I work out, I tell them I work out in my mind occasionally and they always laugh because admittedly, it sounds kind of funny & ridiculous.

We can physically change the brain as well as the body with thought alone.

Your brain doesn’t know the difference between something that is happening in our perceived ‘reality’ and what it is imagining.

“When you focus your attention…” (your mental energy) “…on specific imagery in your mind and become very present with a sequence of repeated thoughts and feelings, your brain and body will not know the difference between what is occurring in the outer world and what is happening in your inner world. So when you’re fully engaged and focused, the inner world of imagination will appear as an outer-world experience — and your biology will change accordingly. ” – Dr. Joe Dispenza Becoming Supernatural

Study 1

A group of Harvard researchers took a group of people who had no experience playing the piano and divided them in half.

Group A practiced a simple exercise on the piano with one hand for two hours every day for five days.

Group B did the same exercise, only mentally — with their imagination — without physically moving their fingers in any way.

The resulting brain scans showed that both groups created a dramatic number of new neural circuits and significant new neurological programming in the region of the brain that controls finger movement.

The group that moved their actual physical fingers and the group that did it mentally. Biologically — as far as their bodies and brains could tell — both groups had done the same thing. 1

If you were to put the group that performed the exercise mentally in front of a piano, many of them would be able to play the exercise they imagine pretty well even though they had never touched piano keys. All because they primed their brain ahead of time.

That is how powerful the mind can be, once it is trained.

Other studies show similar results with muscle training.

Study 2

A research group of Scientists at The Cleveland Clinic

Who: 10 research subjects between the ages of 20 & 35

What: Imagined flexing one of their biceps as hard as they could

Frequency: 5 training sessions a week for 12 weeks

Every other week the researchers recorded the subject’s brain activity during the sessions and measured their muscle strength.

The Result: By the end of the study the subjects had increased their biceps’ strength by 13.5 percent without actually using the muscle at all physically. They maintained the gain for 3 months after the study stopped. 2

Study 3

A research group made up of Scientists from the University of Texas at San Antonio, the Cleveland Clinic & the Kessler Foundation Research Center in West Orange, New Jersey

What: Subjects visualized contracting their elbow flexor muscle, urging the muscles to flex as strong and hard as possible — adding a firm intention to their strong mental energy
Frequency: 15-minute sessions, 5 days a week for 12 weeks

One group used external third-person imagery (seeing themselves from behind – from outside of their body, as if watching themselves in a movie).

The other group used first-person imagery, imagining that their bodies were there in the experience in real-time — making it more immediate and realistic.

Result: The group using third-person imagery as well as the control group showed no change. While the group using internal imagery showed a 10.8 percent increase in strength. 3

Study 4

Researchers from Ohio University wrapped the wrists of 29 volunteers in surgical cats for one month so that they wouldn’t be able to move their wrists, even, unintentionally.

Half of the volunteers practiced mental imagery exercises for 11 minutes a day, five days a week, imagining they were flexing their immobilized wrist muscles — while, remaining completely still. The other half, the control group, did nothing.

When the casts came off the muscles of the imagery group were twice as strong as those of the control group. 4

In each of these studies, these people were able to change their brains and their bodies by thought alone.

By practicing and reviewing the behaviors in their mind consciously, their bodies appeared to have been already performing the behaviors physically.

When they added the emotional component of doing the excise as hard as possible to the intensity of the mental imagery, it made the experiences more real and the results more pronounced.

They primed their neural pathways so their brains created the new neural networks as if they had already learned these new skills or reaped the benefits of the actions they performed mentally.

Information integration

Now that you know you must use the information by integrating it into your life. Otherwise it is simply useless information.

Imagine if every night, before you went to sleep, you invested 10 minutes into imagining yourself living the life experience of your dreams.

You would be priming your brain (by creating new neurological pathways) and your body (by cultivating the feeling and consequently creating the biological experience physically as if in a ‘memory’ that had already happened, within the body.

This is the beginning of science catching up to — and finally being able to understand and explain — spirituality.

This is neurosciences explanation of manifestation, or how thoughts become things.
